Blogging Etiquette

These are some rules you should follow for this class blog:

  1. Be civil. Respect the other posters.
  2. Use a meaningful title for your post.
  3. Appropriately categorize your posts. There are some existing categories (Week 1, Week 2, etc.), but you may create your own.

Here are some general rules to keep in mind while blogging:

  1. Read the rules and guidelines before posting for the first time.
  2. Stay on topic.
  3. Do not promote a product, service, or business on a community blog.
  4. Use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  5. Do not use all caps in your post; it indicates SHOUTING. Additionally, avoid using more than one exclamation point.
  6. When replying to a post, be sure to stay on topic. Do not begin personal conversations or interrupt someone else’s discussion with unrelated problems or comments.
  7. Do not post any information that you want private.
  8. If you post pictures, quote from another source, make sure to give appropriate credit. If you post a picture taken by someone else, ask for permission before re-posting. You may link to the original source otherwise. If you are posting a picture of someone you know, ask their permission before you post it online.
  9. Do not post useless responses such as just “lol” or “cool.” Only post responses when you have something to contribute.
  10. Try to write concisely and avoid rambling.
  11. Do not use words like “urgent” or “important” in your subject line; be patient.
